WATCHED by a fair-size crowd, D’Edward Cricket Club lifted the Berbice Cricket Board/ Perry Gossai West Berbice 100-ball title after they defeated a spirited Cotton Tree Die Hard by 31 runs on Sunday last at the Bush Lot ground.D’Edward took first strike and reached 155-5 before restricting their opponents for 124 in 92 balls. Player of the match, Lakeray Sookra, struck an attacking 61 from 41 balls with seven fours and three sixes.He received support from Davindra Lalsa who made a 14-ball 28 with two fours and two sixes, and Abdool Subhan who struck an unbeaten 29, while Jaipaul Heeralall hit a 10-ball 19. Pooran Persaud finished with 2-23. In reply, Cotton Tree were reduced to 21-3, losing Nick Ramsaroop (10), Daniel Harrynarine (07) and Persaud without scoring.Batting at number seven, Marlon Deputron smashed a top-score of 32 that included four boundaries and one six. Fast bowler Subhan had 3-23 in 4.2 overs for the eventual victors.
