first_imgO’NEILL GETS HIS THIRD WIN OF THE DAY AS TRAVIEZA GOES GATE TO WIRE TO WIN $53,000 SANTA ANITA ALLOWANCE FEATURE BY 2 ¼ LENGTHS; RIDDEN BY BEJARANO, SHE GETS 5 ½ FURLONGS ON TURF IN 1:01.74 ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2019)–Doug O’Neill padded his meet-leading lead in the trainer standings by taking Monday’s $53,000 Santa Anita allowance feature by 2 ¼ lengths with Travieza–his third victory of the afternoon and his 15th of the 23-day Autumn Meet.  Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, the 4-year-old daughter of Into Mischief won in gate to wire fashion while getting 5 ½ furlongs on turf in 1:01.74.“It’s been a good day,” said O’Neill assistant, Steve Rothblum.  “She broke sharp and Rafael kept her comfortable there on the lead.  It’s a good way for her to go out for us.  She’s going to be shipped to Kentucky and she’ll be sold at the Fasig Tipton Sale on Nov. 5 in Lexington.  She’ll either be kept in training or be bred…Winning this race today sure doesn’t hurt her value.”Breaking on top in a field of five fillies and mares, Travieza set fractions of 21.86, 44.49 and 55.71 and was in-hand at the wire. Off at 7-2, she paid $9.40, $3.80 and $2.80.Owned by W.C. Racing Inc., and Greg Lewis, Travieza, who is out of the Tapit mare Bellezza Rosso, won the ungraded Unzip Me Stakes six starts back but was winless in four starts this year. With the winner’s share of $31,800, she leaves O’Neill’s barn with earnings of $207,141. Her overall mark now stands at 17-3-6-3.Off as the 6-5 favorite with Victor Espinoza, Storming Lady, who broke from the rail, had to wait for room around the turn and with the temporary rail set at 30 feet, she never threatened the winner while just getting up to tag Littlefirefighter for second money and paid $2.60 and $2.10.The longest shot in the field at 9-1 with Flavien Prat, Littlefirefighter paid $2.60 to show.Racing will resume with an eight-race card on Friday. First post time is at 1 p.m. and Santa Anita will be open for simulcast wagering on Thursday. Admission gates to the Grandstand Paddock Room will open at 10 a.m.For additional information, please visit santaanita.com or call (626) 574-RACE.last_img read more
