India plotting for Gayle in World T20 semi-final

first_imgMUMBAI, India (CMC):India plan to specifically target explosive opener Chris Gayle in today’s semi-final of the Twenty20 World Cup, team director Ravi Shastri said yesterday.”Bring it on. All our bowlers will target him,” Shastri warned.”I have said this at the beginning. They are probably one of the most dangerous sides in this format,” Shastri said. The left-handed Gayle heads a list of big-hitters in the West Indies side, with the likes of Marlon Samuels, Andre Russell, captain Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo all capable of match-winning innings.”They have got explosive players, match-winners. We know what we are up against and we are up and ready as well. This is not a knockout game for us. The knockout was the last game. That was the quarter-final. This is the semi-final.”I still believe we have played only 70 per cent to our abilities in this tournament. There are still areas where we can improve. Let’s hope it happens tomorrow,” said Shastri.”In a semi-final you got to get your ‘A’ game in. You can’t depend on one or two players, you need six, seven players to step up to the plate. It has not happened so far in this tournament. Let’s hope it happens.”last_img read more

first_imgSHAY Given won’t be Aston Villa’s automatic No1 goalkeeper next season, new boss Paul Lambert has warned. The former Celtic legend has resigned Brad Guzan who was initially released at the end of last season after spending four years at Villa Park. However, it appears the 27-year-old will agree to a new deal with the Midlands club, to compete with Given for the goalkeeper spot, with Lambert hinting that it would ultimately hinge on who performed best in pre-season.“It’s near. I know [Guzan] has always had that stigma of being the No.2 behind some really good goalkeepers,” Lambert said. “But when you come back at the start of the season nobody knows what’s going to happen and it depends on whoever does well.”Lifford man Shay made 34 appearances last season – American Guzan did make several good appearances for the Midlands club when Shay was injured. LAMBERT: SHAY WILL FACE BATTLE TO RETAIN NO1 SPOT AT VILLA was last modified: July 10th, 2012 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:LAMBERT: SHAY WILL FACE BATTLE TO RETAIN NO1 SPOT AT VILLAlast_img read more
