Construction of a new $17-million indoor practice center will begin later this year, Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross announced Tuesday. The football team will be the primary tenants of the 87,000 square foot facility, but all athletic programs will utilize the center.“This practice center will give our football program, and our other programs, the opportunity to prepare, practice and play amongst the best in the nation, while providing the best possible environment for the development of all of our special student-athletes,” Gross said in a SU Athletics press release. “Like the Carmelo Anthony Center has helped our men’s and women’s basketball programs compete at the highest level, this critical new center will continue our football program’s momentum, and is absolutely essential in our pursuit of top-level student-athletes and conference championships.”The facility will be built at the site currently occupied by the Joseph Vielbig Outdoor Track Stadium. The location of the new practice facility also means a new track facility will be built on South Campus, merging with the current site used for field events. The center’s construction represents the fourth phase of improvements being made to the Orange’s football facilities. Syracuse previously renovated the football wing at Manley Field House, built a new strength and conditioning facility and practice fields, and renovated the sports medicine center.AdvertisementThis is placeholder text“This commitment will give our student-athletes a first-rate complex to utilize as we move to the ACC and compete for championships,” football coach Scott Shafer said in the press release. “With our outstanding staff, this building puts us on par or ahead of our competitors in the new league, and will attract and help us develop the kind of outstanding citizens and student-athletes required to win at this level.” Comments Published on February 26, 2013 at 4:47 pm Contact David: email@example.com | @DBWilson2 Facebook Twitter Google+
2019 Fantasy Baseball Rankings:Catcher | First | Second | Third | Short | Outfield | Starter | Reliever | Top 300Shohei Ohtani injury newsBig news on Ohtani came March 9, when he threw a baseball for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery. It was just a light toss, but it puts him on track to return as a hitter in early May. He will not pitch in 2019.Ohtani wowed the league with 22 home runs and 10 steals as a rookie. Even though he’ll likely miss at least a month, he should again be a strong fantasy option, though he’ll only be eligible at UTIL for most, if not all, of the season. As we rapidly approach opening day, two former fantasy studs (Dallas Keuchel, Craig Kimbrel) remain unsigned free agents, and key contributors such top prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr., former Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw, and 2018 AL Rookie of the Year Shohei Ohtani face uncertain timetables as they rehab from injuries. All are affecting fantasy baseball rankings and leaving draft cheat sheets in flux leading up to drafts. We’re here to help with the latest news and updates. We’ll continue to provide the latest news throughout spring training and update our rankings. You can also follow along with us on Twitter @SN_Fantasy for more fantasy advice. DOMINATE YOUR DRAFT: Ultimate 2019 cheat sheetWhat team will Craig Kimbrel sign with?Ken Rosenthal dropped extremely concerning news for fantasy baseball owners this week when he wrote Kimbrel could wait until after the amateur draft in June to sign, thus not subjecting teams to the qualifying offer draft pick penalty that would be assessed if an organization signs him now. While the Rays and Cubs are reportedly interested in Kimbrel as of this week, it’s hard to shake the feeling Kimbrel might be content to sit out a while longer. So, how should prospective fantasy owners react? We think Kimbrel is a top-three closer once he’s on a team, so it’s a matter of having the roster flexibility to stash him if necessary. He’s too good to be removed from your draft board altogether. 2019 Fantasy Baseball Rankings Tiers, Draft StrategyCatcher | First | Second | Third | Short | Outfield | Starter | CloserWill Dallas Keuchel sign before opening day?All has been quiet on the Keuchel front since Ken Rosenthal reported on March 7 that the Astros had made short-term offers to the lefthander, who has been seeking a long-term deal. While it’s difficult to know whether he’ll be signed before opening day, it’s looking increasingly likely that he’ll miss time. In that case, he is obviously not worth targeting in the first 15 rounds of almost any format but could still provide value late in rounds. He’s considered fully healthy and posted a 3.74 ERA last season. At 31, he probably still has some more above-average production in him.2019 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers:Catcher | First | Second | Third | Short | Outfield | Starter | Each teamWhen will Vladimir Guerrero Jr. get called up?Vlad Jr. was diagnosed with a strained left oblique on March 10 and will miss about three weeks. It is considered a Grade 1 strain. After months of concern over possible service time manipulation which would have kept him in the minor leagues for a least a few weeks to give the Blue Jays an extra year of team control, it now appears he will definitely not be out through mid-April and likely a little later. Because fantasy owners were already expecting to not have him on opening day, this news should not move the needle much. Still, the injury is worth keeping an eye on moving forward.MORE FANTASY: All-Overrated Team | All-Sleeper TeamClayton Kershaw injury updateKershaw (shoulder) is expected to throw a bullpen session Thursday after throwing 20 pitches on Monday without setbacks.Pitcher injuries are always scary, but considering Kershaw’s recent history with them, this is a pretty big red flag. He missed significant time due to back ailments since 2016. We advise caution with the lefty, who would be entering the downswing of his career even at full health. He’s No. 77 in our Top 300 rankings.
Baker Mayfield is recruiting Gerald McCoy to join him in Cleveland. While speaking Saturday at his youth ProCamp, the Browns quarterback acknowledged he’s been trying to convince the free-agent defensive end to play with him as he deferred questions to the team’s upcoming minicamp. “A lot to think about!!” McCoy wrote, with the time stamp of 7:13 a.m. emblazoned at the top. “This is how I clear my head. Going to work!!”The Buccaneers released McCoy last month after nine seasons and quickly filled the void by signing fellow veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to a one-year deal.McCoy expressed a strong preference for signing with a contender before his free agency tour began last month. He visited the Browns and Ravens in the last week but left both teams without a deal, though Cleveland is reportedly still interested.Despite McCoy reportedly attempting to start a bidding war between the AFC North foes, Browns coach Freddie Kitchens told NFL Media the team is still hoping to sign McCoy, adding that the team is fine with him visiting other organizations because they want him to be “all in” if he comes to Cleveland. It was reported earlier this month that McCoy was “strongly considering” Cleveland and Baltimore in addition to “three or four teams” that he could sign “in a week or two.” He added another team to the mix by visiting the Panthers last Thursday, though he left Carolina without a contract as well. NFL free agency rumors: Gerald McCoy to visit Panthers “I have been, but we’re going to stick to just camp questions,” Mayfield said, via cleveland.com.McCoy, a fellow former Sooner standout, had posted earlier Saturday on his Instagram story that he was up and moving at the gym preparing for minicamp somewhere. Related News NFL free agency rumors: Gerald McCoy’s visit with Ravens ends on second day with no deal NFL Media reported Sunday that McCoy “will use the coming days to make a decision” before making his move. It’s worth noting the Browns hold their three-day minicamp June 4-6, while the Ravens and Panthers have theirs June 11-13.McCoy, 31, initially was drafted out of Oklahoma by Tampa Bay with the third pick in the 2010 draft. He had 54 1/2 sacks and made six Pro Bowls during his time with the Bucs.

After Luciano Vietto’s opener for Atletico against the run of play, teenager Smith Rowe hit a dazzling equaliser — his first senior goal — in front of new boss Unai Emery as it finished 1-1 after normal time.Under International Champions Cup rules, the game went straight to penalties where substitute Atletico goalkeeper Antonio Adan starred, saving three before coolly slotting the winner himself. Both sides started with unfamiliar line-ups but Arsenal were the dominant force in the first half before they were hit with a sucker-punch four minutes from the break. In a rare Atletico foray forward, Angel Correa crossed from the byline to his fellow Argentine Vietto, whose header looped past new Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno. The German, starting ahead of Petr Cech in goal, otherwise had little to do as Arsenal, employing Emery’s trademark high press, kept Atletico in their own half.French forward Alexandre Lacazette was denied from close range on three occasions, including a full-length save by Atletico’s Jan Oblak after good work from Smith Rowe. But Arsenal struck two minutes into the second half when Smith Rowe curled the equaliser into the top corner from the edge of the box, before being mobbed by his team-mates.Mass substitutions in the last half-hour made for a disjointed finale before the penalty shoot-out.Arsenal, rebuilding under Emery after Arsene Wenger’s 22-year reign, are hoping for silverware this season and a return to the Champions League, while Atletico finished second in La Liga behind Barcelona.0Shares0000(Visited 2 times, 1 visits today)
